Welcome

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Welcome to the unique art of Richard Foote.

I’ve always wanted to capture those weird images one sees when you close your eyes and some light still manages to filter through, which along with your imagination can create all sorts of magical images. I can’t really “draw”, but they’re all hand drawn nonetheless.

So they highlight both what’s in my mind (so be warned) and how I like to relax in the evenings.

The style is generally “Abstract” but I’m not entirely sure abstract what. It’s a form of doodling, where I often have no real idea what the pens will draw on the paper until the subconscious has done it’s thing and there it all is in front of me. But they do capture a point in time and mind and space, although I often forget all these influences and have but these confusing images to remind me.

Some general shapes and images reoccur in different forms and sizes and colours, so they’re often the glue that binds an art work together. But they have different meanings at different times so the story changes with each piece. I sometimes include the mappings of a specific location (e.g.: “Canberra”, “Adelaide”) and so create a landscape image that’s fun to explore.

Being an Australian, I have no doubt some of that comes through as well. In the shapes, in the colours, in the lines and in the dots. But mainly in the subconscious with all the amazing colour and light that envelopes those of us lucky enough to live here.

At the end of the day, the pieces only exist so one can look at them and think, that’s looks interesting, what’s going on there. If they generate even just a single drop of emotion, then they’ve done their job by existing. But I have great enjoyment in creating them all, which is ultimately all that really matters.

That said, due to popular demand, I now also do commission pieces, where folks request a subject or location they would like a piece to be based upon.

Each piece generally takes about 2 weeks and 6 months to complete. I generally use A3 paper with ink pens (although some are A2 and A4 in size).

Please visit my Richard Foote Art page, to see a collection of my art pieces for hopeful your enjoyment.

I’m based in beautiful Canberra, Australia.
